619.2 Chicago RON Memorial

Naperville (Lisle) to Chicago IL, June 19

"...Once I was fairly in Chicago I sought to get a new motor crank, but found there was none to be had, so I telegraphed to San Francisco for one....After telegraphing for the motor crank I knew I would have to lay up in Chicago for a while, so I went out to engage lodgings. I found a nice-looking boarding house, and chose it in preference to a hotel. I engaged board for four days. When I made a light in the room, however, I found I had company - insects in the bed as big as canary birds. At least they looked that big to me. I hastily decamped with my few belongings, and walked the streets for three hours, feeling timid about making another attempt to get accommodations."

Waypoint Today:  Unfortunately, George wasn't very specific about the locations he frequented during his 4 day lay-over in Chicago.
