The George A. Wyman Memorial Project: Wyman Memorial Challenge

It took George Wyman 50 days, averaging 75 miles each, to go from San Francisco to New York City in 1903. Each day he would start from a location where he Remained-Over-Night (RON) riding all day, sometimes well into the night before stopping.

The George A. Wyman Memorial Project in partnership with the Iron Butt Association "World's Toughest Motorcycle Riders" have developed challenging long-distance rides to memorialize Wyman's historic journey. The Wyman Memorial Challenge (WMC.) "Day Rides" consists of the; Wyman SaddleSore 1,000 miles & Wyman Bun Burner GOLD 1,500 miles in one day.

A group of IBA members will pay tribute to Wyman by riding more than 1,000 miles in less than 24 hours. To receive IBA recognition of the WMC "Day Ride" members are required to start at a Wyman RON location, make at least 3 RON stops along the way and Finish at a Wyman RON location. The riders have spontaneously organized and will start, May 20th, at the Wyman designated RON Waypoint 607-4 Ogallala, Nebraska and finish at 623-8 Perrysburg, Ohio. What took Wyman 17 "Day Rides" to travel the 1,000+ miles these modern Long-Distance riders will do in less than 24 hours.
